Swine flu claims local man

The Virginia Department of Health confirmed this morning that a resident of the Charlottesville region who had been diagnosed with ?swine flu? has died.
The unidentified adult male is Virginia?s sixth fatality associated with the novel flu strain that is now officially called 2009 Influenza A H1N1 virus.
Dr. Lilian Peake, director of the Thomas Jefferson Health District, said the case is the first fatality to occur in the district that includes Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.
Peake said she could not release any additional information about the patient, though she did confirm that he had an underlying medical condition that put him at greater risk.
