Swine Flu claims 5th Kern victim; Nasal vaccine here

A fifth Kern County resident has died from the H1N1 Swine Flu, the Health Department confirmed Wednesday, the same day it announced the nasal mist vaccine is available.
Health Officer Dr. Claudia Jonah would not identify the latest victim. The department planned to release more information next week.
The nasal mist vaccine now available in Kern is intended for children and teens between 2 and 18 years old and for people under 49 who care for babies. The mist is not appropriate for people who are sick or have certain medical conditions.
The Health Department has given the nasal mist to local doctors to give to patients. The Department has opened clinics to distribute the nasal mist for free.
Flu shots should arrive in Kern within the next two weeks, Jonah said.
The clinics for the mist are at the Public Health headquarters on Mt. Vernon Avenue near Kern Medical Center. They are open Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon.
