First swine flu death reported in Pasco

NEW PORT RICHEY - The Pasco County Health Department has reported the first swine flu-related death of a county resident.
The health department received notification of the death of a 35-year-old male that was laboratory-confirmed with novel H1N1. Additional information regarding underlying health conditions is pending, a news release stated.
"We are saddened by this news, our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends." said David Johnson, Pasco County health officer. "Like seasonal flu, H1N1 can be very serious and as a community, we need to continue to follow the recommended precautions to avoid spreading infections."
The Florida Department of Health has launched a toll-free number to provide public health information and updates on swine flu. The information line will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Call 1-877-352-3581. Information is available in English, Spanish and Creole.
