Swine flu death toll at 9 as injectable vaccine arrives in state

LITTLE ROCK ? Nine Arkansans have now died from swine flu, the state Health Department said today as the state began receiving doses of the swine flu vaccine in injectable form.
Two new deaths related to the H1N1 virus brought the toll up from seven, Health Department spokesman Ed Barham said. He did not release the names, ages or locations of the latest victims.
Barham did not have an estimate of how many doses of the injectable vaccine that began arriving today Arkansas would receive this week. Last week, the state received 17,000 doses of the vaccine in nasal mist form.
Barham said the injectable vaccine will be used first at school health clinics and maternity clinics to vaccinate children with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, and pregnant women ? two groups that cannot receive the nasal mist.
Vaccinations will be available for the general public at mass clinics on Oct. 29, 30 and 31.
