SPARTA (WKOW) -- Monroe County health officials have confirmed that young girl has died of the H1N1 influenza virus.

The 21-month-old girl was from Sparta.

The county would not release any more details about the victim or what lead to her death. But health officials emphasize swine flu can be especially dangerous for young children, along with anyone with a compromised immune system or a chronic illness.

The girl's death is the ninth in Wisconsin this year. Swine flu cases have been reported in 52 of the state's 72 counties. Twenty-six people have been hospitalized since September 1.

CASHTON, Wis. -- A 1-year-old child's death in Monroe County this past week is being linked to the H1N1 flu virus, according to a family member.

They said that Aberianna Dunnum, of Cashton, died on Sunday. She would have been 2 years old in January. A funeral service is scheduled Friday morning at Presbyterian Church in Galesville.

The Monroe County Health Department reported a flu-related death in a news release on Thursday, but provided no further details.

H1N1 flu cases have now been reported in 52 of Wisconsin's 72 counties and led to 26 hospitalizations since Sept. 1. The so-called swine flu has led to two deaths this fall, including the latest, and nine this year.
