KALAMAZOO ? A Kalamazoo County person died Thursday of the H1N1 flu virus, according to county health officials.

It is the county?s first H1N1-related death.

?An individual has died that was confirmed with the H1N1 virus,? said Marc Meulman, the county?s deputy health director.

The person was in his or her 40s and a patient at Bronson Methodist Hospital.

Meulman would not release the person?s name, hometown, exact age or if the person had other health complications.

Annie Wendt, an epidemiologist at the Kalamazoo County Department of Health and Community Services, said this was the county?s first flu-related death this season.

During a typical year, about 40 people die from the seasonal flu in Kalamazoo County, she said.
