A 29-year-old Fresno Pacific University student has died from complications of the H1N1 virus, officials said Monday.

Miyoshi Smith, who had returned to college to study criminology, died Sunday morning after being hospitalized for a week and a half with H1N1 and pneumonia, the university said in a statement.

Smith was taking classes online and had not been on campus for more than a month, officials said.

Smith, of Fresno, leaves a 10-year-old son.

"Our prayers are with Miyoshi's family and friends, as well as with her fellow students," Fresno Pacific President D. Merrill Ewert said in the statement.

Prior to Smith's death, Fresno County had 10 confirmed deaths from the H1N1 virus since June 1.
