    LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska health officials say a man in his 20s who had the swine flu has died.

    A news release issued Friday by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says the Sarpy County man died after becoming ill with the flu strain, which is also known as the H1N1 flu virus.

    The man had an underlying health condition that put him at risk of complications, but officials said privacy laws won't allow them to release more details.

    "Synopsis: During week 48 (November 29-December 5, 2009), Nebraska reported sporadic activity to CDC. To date, H1N1 illness in Nebraska and the United States continues to be similar to seasonal influenza, with the vast majority of diagnosed patients having mild illness. (ILI) has decreased from 4.17% to 1.75% with 11 of 18 (61%) providers reporting.

    Hospital Influenza-like Illness (ILI) Admissions Surveillance: 117 new influenza associated hospitalizations this week, bringing the season total to 3460. 33% of these hospitalizations are adults 65 and older. For those in the 0-4 age group the hospitalization rate was 30% and for those 50-64 years old, 14%.

    School Surveillance: There were no school closures were reported for the
    surveillance week. Absenteeism due to ILI is less than 1%.

    Mortality: Nine (9) deaths in Nebraska have been attributed to lab confirmed
    influenza virus since August 30, 2009.
