Pig Flu Had Finally Arrived In South-East Sulawesi
    Kendari | Sat November 28 2009

The spreading of the virus of pig flu in Indonesia continued to continue and to for the first time enter the South-East Sulawesi territory (Sultra). A livestock breeding region was in the Uepai Subdistrict, Konawe Regency, reported has infected the virus H1N1 and was estimated spread to the poultry.

Section Head Agriculture South-East Sulawesi Mansur who also supervised the livestock breeding field acknowledged if the case of pig flu has spread in pig livestock breeding belonging to villagers Langgomea.

"His official results we have received from the Great Veterinary Hall (Balivet) Maros that stated one from 24 samples that were sent by us contained the virus H1N1," Mansur words were experienced in Meeting gaps of the Meeting Coordinate Carry Out Program Develoment Budget Year 2009 in Kendari, on Wednesday (25/11).

The sample of this pig was taken from a pig breeder named I Wayan Mangka in the settlement region of transmigration, Konawe, that was occupied by the transmigrant from Bali. This breeder reported to the local livestock breeding service after seeing the condition for the health of his pig descended and showed the sign of flu.

This report was followed up by taking the sample in this region and evidently positive results. Mansur said, his side ordered so that the region that infected that was carried out by spraying disinfectant and was carried out by the isolation as far as the radius 200 metre.

"All the available animals in radius that might not go out. Likewise was the reverse, animals might not outside the radius enter to prevent the occurrence of the spread," said Mansur.

He worried, the virus spread to the poultry so as the attack will be far more dangerous. The concern emerged considering, extension time of the sample of taking through to the announcement produced by the testing of the laboratory took up time till 10 days more.

In time extension that for quite a long time this, was estimated several poultries already infected so as the policy of the isolation was at once applied.

In relation to the potential for the spreading, Mansur said, basically the spreading of the quite small virus of pig flu remembered centres of pig livestock breeding in South-East Sulawesi was very small. The region of pig livestock breeding only was in the location transmgration that was occupied by the transmigrant from Bali that was religious non-muslim.

In the meantime, Section Head Health South-East Sulawesi Amin Yohanes said, with the existence of these findings, his side asked that the community increased vigilance to maintain the cleanliness of the environment and guard food that they consumption especially that originated in the poultry and pork.

"We also in fact spread Tamiflu as far as the community health centre for the beginning action if indeed had the report concerning the existence of the spreading to humankind," said Amen.

Whereas for the level of the province, his side maintained RSUD South-East Sulawesi as the centre of reconciliation for the handling of pig flu plus bird flu. In this hospital was prepared the special room to handle the patient who contracted this virus.http://www.jurnalnasional.com/show/s...&berita=112546

    From Bird Flu Corner

Yesterday I saw a report from Java, describing a pig barn next to a chicken coop was tore down and a new one build up `far away from the chickens`. Seems wise. I am not sure if we do that in the Western Countries.

Southeast Sulawesi ::: H1N1 detected in pigs

    November 28, 2009

Southeast Sulawesi – A farm in Kecamatan Uepai, Kabupaten Konawe allegedly infected by H1N1 virus and might be transmitted to birds.

Head of Agriculture Service of Southeast Sulawesi, Mansur, confirmed swine flu case has been spreading in pig farm in Langgomea village. Of 24 pig samples sent to Veterinary Research Center in Maros, one has been tested positive H1N1 virus, Mansur said.

The pig samples were derived from a farm which showed sickness and flu symptoms in pigs. Prompt actions have been done by disinfection and isolation to surrounding area.

“We isolated the suspected are within a radius of 200 meters. Any animal transportation in and out is prohibited to prevent transmission from pigs to birds,” said Mansur.

However, possibility of disease transmission is low because pig farms in Southeast Sulawesi are centralized only in transmigration area resided by Balinese. As a moslem country, pig farming is not common in Indonesia, and it is usually done by non-moslems such as Balinese.

Health Service officials has distributed Tamiflu to local public health center to anticipate any transmission to human.

Just a warning: H1N1 could be seasonal flu in Indonesia, seasonal H1N1 used to be quite normal.

May be still is. Not much reports on new H1N1 from Indonesia, sources says hardly any influenza patients now in hospital.

So the H1N1 could be seasonal flu, was no mentioned in the report what kind of flu.

Re: Indonesia - More pigs and possibly birds at same farm with H1N1

From the first story, to me, implies it is pandemic H1N1. The title says "Swine flu finally arrives". http://translate.google.com/translat...&sl=auto&tl=en

They are calling it by the name "swine flu", by the Health dept.."Head of Department of Agriculture Sultra Mansur is also subordinated to admit that livestock swine flu cases spread to the pig farm owned by the Village Langgomea", have quarintined the area and mention it probably has infected birds.
They have distributed tamiflu to community health centers, in case of human infections and also are preparing hospital rooms.

This appears to be the 2nd case of pigs in Indonesia with h1n1 SWINE FLU, and also is probably infecting birds, the first case in chickens, in Indonesia, IFRC.
This is the promed report just received, from the previous outbreak on Aug 27,2009, 3 months ago

The ProMED report refers to another location, some 800 miles away, on Sumatra.
