52 diagnosed with bacterial infection

VEDARANYAM: The cases of mysterious fever have been diagnosed as leptospirosis, with over 52 patients diagnosed with the bacterial infection at the Vedaranyam General Hospital here.
Of them, over 45 cases were from Siruthalai Kaadu village. However, most of the patients were treated and discharged on Wednesday. As of Wednesday evening, over 23 cases were still under treatment. This includes 14 cases from Siruthalai Kaadu.
Further, of eight new blood samples sent from the village, three have tested ?strongly positive?, three others ?weakly positive?, and the results of two others were yet to be ascertained.
The blood samples were sent to the Institute of Vector Control & Zoonoses, Hosur.
Medical camps were stationed at Siruthalai Kaadu and door-to-door inspection by health workers is under progress. Two tablets of Doxycycline was being administered to adults since Tuesday, a medical officer said.
