Re: Egypt - Bird Flu in Poultry Causes Prices to Rise Sharply

frozen local chicken are being advertised in four newspaper flyer's at a price of fourteen Egyptian pound per kilo or two dollars and fifty four cents for just over a two pound bird.

super market meat counters are full of product.

a week ago we drove up the coast,I saw lots of ducks being raised along the Suez canal and on other fresh water bodies. also quite a few other types of poultry being raised free range by local people.

The herds of cattle also seemed to be decent size herds. a couple of hundred head and even larger flocks of sheep and goats I'm not sure there is any shortage of meats at all I think its the normal Ramadan pricing which is driving up prices. about two weeks ago the government here released the new yearly budget and many cost were escalated by almost forty percent.

we ate fresh shrimp and fish which only cost about 1.81 cents per pound live in the area we were in. or just under ten egyptain pounds per pound.
