  • LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: Complaint against school principal after girl dies of fever

Not nearly enough information here to guess what the illness is, and no evidence that any testing has or will be done.

Lucknow: An FIR has been registered against the principal of St. Paul's School, Ilyas Rodrigues, after the father of a 12-year-old girl, who died due high fever, lodged a complaint with police alleging her school authorities failed to provide her timely medical help.

Arundhati Vaishya, a class VI student of St Paul's School, complained of high fever and vomiting on October 6. The girl was allegedly not allowed to go home by the school authorities.

After the school closed for the day, Arundhati was admitted to a private hospital.

Sandeep Vaishya, father of the victim, alleged in his complaint that the girl's condition turned critical by the time she came home as she did not receive proper medical help.

"We were alarmed when Arundhati returned home. She was rushed to a nearby doctor and then to a private hospital," Sandeep said.

The family members of the victim also staged a demonstration in front of her school and demanded action against institution authorities.

However the school authorities denied any negligence. Father Donald Rodrgiues, manager of St. Paul's said, "We condole the loss of the student, but the school was not negligent. the parents knew that the girl was unwell. Whenever there is an instance where a child falls ill then we immediately inform their parents, or rush them to a hospital."

    School ignores plea, student dies

In what appears to be a shocking case of insensitivity & negligence in Lucknow, a 12-yr old girl succumbed to fever as her school authorities' allegedly refused to let her go home in spite of her illness.

An inconsolable father lost his dear child due to the school's insensitivity over the child being sick and not letting her leave school. Arundhati's father blames his 12-year-old's school for her death.

Speaking to media about the incident he said, "My daughther was fine when she reached school. But in the school she vomited a lot, I don't know the count. But neither did father let her leave early nor did he call us. My daughter requested the Principal to call us but he refused and said you can only go at 1:30 pm. Principal of St.Paul's school should be severely punished as he has killed my daughter."

Her insensitive school reportedly ignored the child's deteriorating condition and now gives a pathetic excuse. The principal of St Paul's school, Lucknow, Father Donald D'Souza reacted to the child?s death saying, "She has died now but she wasn't keeping well from a long time. So there was no negligence from the school's side."

But doctors confirm that the 7th standard student was brought in too late. "I want to tell you that when this girl came to me, then she was in a state of shock, we were not able to detect her blood pressure," the doctor said.

Now, no amount of excuses will help. This father has lost everyone... and has just one plea, "I pray that what has happened to my daughter should never happen to anyone else."

Police have charged a Catholic priest-principal in Lucknow with negligence after an 11-year old girl at his school died in the hospital following a fever.

The priest and the Lucknow diocese deny any wrongdoing, ucanews.com reports.

Arundhati Vaishya, a sixth-grade student at St. Paul?s School in the Uttar Pradesh state capital, complained of high fever and vomiting on Oct. 6. She died a week later.

Her father Sandeep Vaishya told ucanews.com that the school?s ?irresponsibility? led to her death as she was not allowed to go home.

Following the complaint, police filed a case of negligence against school principal Father Elias Rodrigues of Lucknow diocese, which manages the school.

The diocese expressed ?shock and sadness? at the girl?s death but said the school and the principal were ?in no way responsible.? It also offered prayers of the departed soul.

In a statement, diocesan spokesperson Donald H. R. De Souza said the girl died on Oct. 13, seven days after she left the school when she was under the care of her parents.

The school had wanted to send the girl home but she had wanted to take rest in the school. It also said the girl tried to contact the family but no one had answered the call.

The already sick child should not have been sent to the school and the parents took the girl to hospital only on Oct. 10, the fourth day of her illness, the statement said.

?It was the duty of the parents? to give medical care to their ward, it said.
