    Brucellosis - Information from CDC

THREE VETERINARIANS FROM ŽIVINICA INFECTED WITH BRUCELLOSIS

    monday, december 6 2010

TUZLA - Three veterinarians employed at the Veterinary Station Živinice were diagnosed with brucellosis, and they were hospitalized at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases-University Clinical Centre (UCC), Tuzla, it was confirmed from these health facilities.

    Infected with the vaccination

"Infected veterinarians at the hospital and were under clinical observation. A positive development is that none of them had clinical symptoms of the disease, but have increased the IGG, IGA and IGM (elevated levels of immunoglobulin in the blood caused by liver disease, acute and chronic infections, autoimmune diseases, in plasmacvtomas, Waldenströmovoj macroglobulinemia and heavy chain disease, op. a.).

We assume that they are infected in the preventive action of vaccination of livestock against brucellosis, which was conducted in the previous period because they were in direct contact with infected animals ", says Dr. Mustafa Sabanovic, director of the Veterinary Station Živinice, adding that the situation in the cell under Nazor because they not the only ones who were involved in a regular campaign of vaccination of livestock.

But Dr. Šabanović told us that three hospitalized vets are not the only employees of veterinary facilities that are infected with brucellosis.
"Currently, seven seropositive employees in our station. Four had previously been in the hospital and believed that they preležali disease. Although, unfortunately, for brucellosis can never say that it cured because it is a disease that constantly lurks hidden in the body and waiting for the right moment to be activated, "says Dr. Šabanović.

    Poor condition

Not so long ago 2008th Veterinary Inspectorate of the Federation BiH public is shaken by making allegations that escaped control brucellosis as a result of the fact that in our country have not been properly carried out preventive measures, and not passed no legislation and programs, as well as mechanisms to implement these measures. It seems that even today not much different situation.

"Before the system was 'Detect and remove'. Regularly for the diagnosis of livestock and all positive reactors were removed. Based on the diseased animals were found in watching people who were in contact with them. Now it seems that we, unfortunately, deteriorated so much that we came into a situation that the sick people are discovering the sick animals, "says Dr. Šabanović.

After a brucellosis outbreak in Belgium 3 more farms in the Netherlands are blocked. The Dutch farms could have imported infected cows from Belgium.
