More H1N1 Deaths in Arkansas in 2009-10 than previously counted
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)--The first death of the 2010-2011 flu season was reported last week to the Arkansas Department of Health.
The Health Department does not disclose any other information about the death because of privacy concerns.
According to James Phillips, MD, Branch Chief of Infectious Disease at ADH, this report serves as a reminder that the flu can be deadly.
"The flu is something that we always take very seriously," Phillips said. "For some people, the complications that develop are life-threatening. Last year's H1N1 flu caused 53 deaths among Arkansans.
Comment - Last season I had a difficult time getting data from Arkansas and only had 30 pH1N1 deaths for the season.
