    Bird Flu Peeking in Solo

    SOLO, KOMPAS.com - As many as eight of the 11 chickens owned by residents Kerten RT I RW03 Kelurahan, Kecamatan Laweyan, Surakarta, died suddenly on Monday (2/21/2011), fell ill and tested positive for avian influenza or bird flu.

    Solo ? Agriculture Service found 8 of 11 died-off chickens were bird flu H5N1 positive in Solo, East Java province. This was confirmed by Head of Agriculture Service of Solo, Wenny Ekayanti. Officials received report that birds had suddenly died in RT 01/03, Kelurahan Kerten, Kecamatan Laweyan. Rapid test showed they died of bird flu H5N1, said Wenny.

    Following to the incident, officials conducted control measures by burning dead chickens and disinfection of the area.

    Meanwhile, the owners of those diseased chickens received examination from Health Service, and tested negative bird flu.

    Klaten ? People in Dukuh Dawetan, Desa Candirejo, Kecamatan Ngawen, Kabupaten Klaten disinfected numbers of H5N1-infected bird cages. Disinfection was done using Virtox, a disinfectant provided by Agriculture Service of Kabupaten Klaten.

    Public Health Center of Ngawen recorded a total 441 of 1,090 birds from 26 households in Dukuh Duwetan, died off.

    The number would reach several thousand if dead birds from other villages in Desa Candirejo were also included .

    So far, no bird flu suspect in human, even though Public Health Center has prepared Tamiflu as anti-influenza drug.

    Sragen ? In Desa Sumengko, Sragen, Central Java, dozens of chickens were found to have died. Further examination by Livestock Service showed bird flu H5N1 infection. Control measures were done by burning and burying dead chickens, also disinfection to the infected area.
