45 swine flu cases in AP since January

Of the 45, 42 were reported in private hospitals and the remaining three in government hospitals. Of the 45 cases 42 cases have been treated and only three deaths occurred due to swine flu. ?In the past two months there is an increase in the number of cases. However, there is no pandemic situation and even the cases are of less virulence. There is no need to worry,? said Subhakar. He added the there was a surge in the upper respiratory tract infection due to viral infections.

Subhakar said people need not panic as they have already developed immunity against the deadly disease during the last couple of years. According to World Health Organisation, the virulence of H1N1 virus has come down after 2010 in the post-pandemic period.

Since 2010, he said the transmission rate also has come down to a great extent. He asked the people suffering from respiratory diseases to use mask to control the spread of disease and wash their hands frequently to avoid contracting any respiratory diseases.

Hyderabad: Sunstroke renders swine flu impotent
          Express News Service

HYDERABAD: The dreaded swine flu is back in the twin cities but guess what is keeping it on the leash? The rising temperature is more than compensating for the absence of precautionary measures so much so that doctors at the Government General and Chest Diseases Hospital at Erragadda are confident that the H1N1 virus will soon wither away.
But it doesn?t mean that there is no cause for concern. If 45 positive cases, including three deaths, were recorded since Jan 1 till March 21 this year, 10 more cases have been reported in the last four days alone. Of them, one patient has died, confirmed Dr Subhakar, State coordinator for swine flu.

Silence about H1N1 spreading the virus?
                  TNN | Apr 7, 2012, 03.28AM IST

HYDERABAD: A dozen people have died due to swine flu in the GHMC jurisdiction so far this year and as many as 83 people have tested positive for the air-borne virus in the last three months. But 'mum's the word' for the state health department that seems to be counting the virtues of silence as against talking about the spread of the infection. A spurt in the number of deaths and cases in March led to Andhra Pradesh recording the second highest number of cases in the country after Maharashtra. The silence, experts say, is only adding to the numbers.

Private hospitals, which are recording a considerable number of swine flu patients, have been barred from doling out any information on swine flu to the media. So far, 30 patients have been treated at the state-run Gandhi Hospital alone. Specialists say that the government's response to the H1N1 Influenza this year has been poor. "The government has chosen to curb the flow of information as against curbing the disease," a specialist said. So far, a number of deaths have been reported in city hospitals: Gandhi Hospital (4), Apollo Hospital (4), Rainbow (1), Yashoda Hospital (1), Fernandez Hospital (1) and Mahaveer (1).
