Swine flu claims one life in Bhopal

Swine flu took its first toll of this year in Bhopal on Wednesday afternoon. Anil Hole (37), resident of Saket Nagar was admitted in Career Hospital on March 25, with severe cold and lung congestion.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to another hospital where he was
put on ventilator. He was diagnosed with pneumonia in his lungs. Suspecting swine flu, his blood sample was sent to Jabalpur laboratory. However, the patient died by Wednesday afternoon, said Dr PN Agarwal.

Test report confirmed that Hole was suffering from swine flu. Anil did not travel anywhere outside Bhopal or any member of his family suffering from swine flu, said Dr Agarwal. About 10 samples have been sent for testing swine flu. Swine flu claimed one life in Bhopal last year as well.

Bhopal: Swine flu pandemic on wings?
Source: Bhaskar News | Last Updated 01:59(01/04/12)

Bhopal: Three more suspected cases of swine flu surfaced on Saturday in Bhopal, where two people have died of H1N1 virus in the last two days.

The health department has directed all district hospitals in Madhya Pradesh to open a dedicated swine flu OPD. This year, only 12 samples have been tested in the state and the experts recommend more preemptive testing to avoid an outbreak like the one in 2009, when 139 H1N1 deaths had taken place.

Two H1N1 suspect cases reported in Madhya Pradesh

INDORE: After nearby Maharashtra, cases of suspected swine flu appear to be on the rise in Madhya Pradesh. Two suspected cases were reported from Jabalpur and Indore on Monday. The health department confirmed one H1N1 positive case in Jabalpur while another suspected patient was found in Indore whose confirmatory report is yet to be declared. Earlier, one death was reported in Indore.

So far in the year 2012, a total of nine patients were found H1N1 positive while three deaths were reported from the state, including one from Indore. The data of health department says that a total of 72 samples of throat swabs were collected from various parts of the state including Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior divisions, of which nine were confirmed positive. Fresh swine flu case in city, IDSP still sans consultant
                  TNN | Aug 23, 2012, 06.19AM IST

BHOPAL: Swine flu is back. However, five months since the first H1N1 case was detected in the city this year, the government is yet to appoint a consultant for integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP). IDSP is meant to detect early warning signals of impending medical outbreaks and health experts suggest that an ineffective response from IDSP in a timely manner could have tragic consequence.

Delay in swine flu detection again came to the fore on Wednesday after a twenty-eight-year-old woman has tested positive for the swine flu in Bhopal. It took some six days for confirmation after sample was sent by private LBS hospital on August 16. According to Regional Medicine and Research Laboratory (RMRL) sources, the sample was only received on Wednesday morning.
