    HFM, dengue fever develop unpredictably
    VietNamNet Bridge ? The Preventive Healthcare Centre in southern Dong Nai Province warned that hand-foot-mouth disease (HFM) and dengue fever has developed quickly and unexpectedly across the region.

    Centre statistics show that HFM disease has spread to 169 out of 171 communes, affecting 2,000 people and killing two since earlier this year.

    Meanwhile, nearly 1,800 people have contracted dengue fever in 154 communes, with one patient succumbing to the disease.

      Dengue fever spreads in Binh Thuan
      BINH THUAN - Dengue fever is spreading in central Binh Thuan Province, said Tran Thi Ngoc Phuong, provincial head of the Infectious Diseases and Vaccines Institute.
      Since early this year, Binh Thuan has reported more than 450 cases of dengue fever, about 65 per cent more than for the same period last year.
      The disease has occurred throughout most of the province. Phan Thiet City has reported 132 cases, Ham Thuan Bac district 88 cases and Lagi town, 53 cases.

        Dr. Nguyen Van Binh, head of the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, said on July 12 that the hand-foot-mouth disease and dengue fever have developed in a complicated way that is now afflicting more people and increasing fatality rates.

          Outbreak of dengue fever in Dong Nai, Ben Tre Provinces

          The Preventive Medicine Center in the southern province of Dong Nai has reported an outbreak of dengue fever in all Communes and Wards of the Province, with a recorded 3,000 cases and five fatalities already.

          In July alone, four deaths were reported in Dong Nai Province. So far, Bien Hoa City has recorded 800 cases of dengue fever, Trang Bom District has 500 infectious cases and Xuan Loc District has more than 400 cases.

          Meanwhile, the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre is also currently reeling under an outbreak of dengue fever, with 1,069 recorded dengue fever cases including 105 that are in critical condition. Districts in the province reporting the most number of cases are Ba Tri with 216 cases, Binh Dai with 158 cases and Giong Trom with 142 cases...

            Dengue fever causes 30 deaths in six months
            The Department of Preventive Health under the Ministry of Health has announced 30 dengue fever deaths in the first six months of this year.
            During this period, more than 26,000 people were infected nation-wide, a year-on-year increase of 24 per cent.
            The number of infected people in the central region increased by 71 per cent compared to the same period last year, while the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) and southern regions posted increases of 40 and 23 per cent respectively.

              Dengue fever pandemic in South Vietnam
              During the first seven months of the year, the country reported nearly 40,000 cases of dengue fever, a year-on-year increase of 35 percent, with South Vietnam alone reporting 37,719 cases with 24 deaths.

                Dengue tipped to peak after recent rains
                HA NOI ? The dengue epidemic is expected to peak in Viet Nam in September following recent heavy rainfalls, said deputy head of the Health Ministry's Preventative Health Department Tran Thanh Duong.
                A department statistic showed that nearly 39,900 Vietnamese people were reportedly stricken by dengue virus in the first seven months of this year, 35,000 of them in southern regions: an increase of 14 per cent compared with the same period last year. Twenty-six people died.

                  Dengue fever widespread in Vietnam

                  According to the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, so far this year 26 people have succumbed to dengue fever and more than 40,000 infectious cases have been reported in the country.

                  The department informed that with 40,000 cases this year the numbers of dengue fever patients have increased by 35 percent, as compared to the same period last year.

                  Central and highland provinces have been the worst affected with a high number of dengue patients.

                    Da Nang warns of dengue outbreaks in wet season
                    DA NANG ? (VNS) The central city has seen 97 cases of dengue fever since early this year, the city's Preventive Medicine Centre director Ton That Thanh told Viet Nam News today.
                    He confirmed that patients in 40 communes and precincts of the three biggest districts (Hai Chau, Hoa Vang and Cam Le) had contracted the disease since January.
                    He warned that the number of patients would increase between now and November.
                    "Dengue fever outbreaks usually occur in September and November when the rainy season has begun in the central region. We have raised awareness of disease prevention among local people and cleaned water containers as well as drainage systems," Thanh said.

                      Hanoi has first dengue outbreak

                      Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Director of the Center for Preventive Medicine of Ha Dong district told VietNamNet that the dengue outbreak was detected last weekend and it was immediately treated under the due process.

                      Early this week the Preventive Medicine Center of Ha Dong district sprayed chemicals to kill mosquito larvae in Phuc La ward, with 30 sprayers. In the next few days, this task will be continued to eliminate the root of mosquito larvae.

                        Dengue fever cases continue to rise

                        HA NOI ? (VNS) The Ministry of Health's Preventive Healthcare Department has urged people protect themselves against outbreaks of dengue fever, a disease spread by mosquitoes.
                        The department has urged people to clean places where mosquitoes and larva may be prevalent, such as bushes, and kill the insects to stop the spread of dengue fever.
                        According to the Ministry's statistics, 51,000 people contracted dengue fever across the nation since the beginning of the year, and 42 of these cases resulted in fatalities.

                          Dengue fever deaths rise in first nine months
                          HCM CITY (VNS)? The number of fatalities due to dengue fever increased by nearly 21 per cent in the first nine months of the year against the same period last year, according to the General Department of Preventive Medicine.
                          Speaking at an international workshop on dengue-fever prevention in HCM City yesterday, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long noted that urbanisation and climate change were contributing to the rise in number of cases.
                          "Many people continue to store water in their homes in uncovered jars, which attracts mosquitoes," Long said.
                          Long said they had been told to place guppy fish in the jars to destroy mosquito larvae.
