  • HK: Clusters of Influenza A cases in Castle Peak Hospital

    Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital made the following announcement today (June 18):

    Patients in two female forensic wards have confirmed positive for Influenza A virus.Seven patients (aged 25 to 73) in one of the wards have presented with flu symptoms since June 15.Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results of four of them were positive for Influenza A. In another ward, five patients (aged 28 to 60) had also presented with flu symptoms since June 16. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results of three of them were positive for Influenza A.The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.



    Admission to the wards concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

    Regarding the announcement earlier on a cluster of patients in a female forensic ward confirmed with Influenza A, the spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital made the following update today (June 20):

    One more 53-year-old patient in the ward has presented with flu symptoms. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Influenza A. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in a stable condition.



    Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

    The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
