    Cumulative number of diagnosed influenza cases

    Cumulative results of influenza diagnosis by different tests were submitted by 49 RBLs and 2 WHO NICs. According to these data as a result of investigation of 1143 patients no influenza cases were detected

    Conclusion

    Influenza and ARI morbidity data. Clinical and epidemiological data show low influenza activity in Russia. The nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level registered this week (60.5) was lower the national baseline (66.7) by 9.3%.
    Etiology of ILI & ARI morbidity. No influenza cases were detected by laboratory tests (virus isolation, IFA and rRT-PCR). The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive for parainfluenza, adenovirus and RSV was determined as 13.0% (PCR) and 15.5% (IFA).
    Sentinel surveillance. Clinical samples from 74 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. No influenza cases were detected among 29 SARI and 45 ILI/ARI patients.

According to these data as a result of investigation of 1634 patients the overall proportion of respiratory samples positive for influenza virus was estimated by IFA as 0.7%, including 0.2% for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, 0.2% for influenza A(H3N2) virus and 0.4% for influenza B virus. No influenza cases were recognized this week by RT-PCR. No influenza virus was isolated.

The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive by IFA for influenza was estimated as 0.7%, for ARI of parainfluenza, adenovirus and RSV etiology as 21.9%. Percent of PCR positive ARI cases of non-influenza etiology (PIV, adeno- and RSV) was estimated as 15.9% of investigated samples. No influenza cases were recognized during this week by other tests (RT-PCR and virus isolation).

                          Cumulative results of influenza diagnosis by different tests were submitted by 15 RBLs. According to these data as a result of investigation of 201 patients the overall proportion of respiratory samples positive for influenza virus was estimated as 5.5%, including 4.0% for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, 0.5% for influenza A(H3N2) virus and 1.0% for influenza B virus. One influenza A(H3N2) virus was isolated in Astrakhan (Southern Federal District) and one influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus was isolated in Moskow NIC.

                            Epidemiological data show increase of influenza activity in Russia in comparison with previous week. The nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level registered this week (44.2 per 10 000 of population) was lower than the national baseline by 33.9%. Epidemic thresholds of ILI and ARI were exceeded in two cities (Ekaterinburg and Kazan) by 56-65% and in two cities (Ufa and Yakutsk) by 21-34% of 59 base laboratories collaborating with two WHO NICs in Russia.

Epidemic thresholds of ILI and ARI were exceeded in two cities (Ekaterinburg and Kazan) by 56-65% and in two cities (Ufa and Yakutsk) by 21-34% of 59 base laboratories collaborating with two WHO NICs in Russia.

A total of 3 (11.1%) influenza A(H3N2) cases were detected among 27 ILI/ARI patients.

                              Influenza and ARI morbidity data

                              Increased influenza activity was registered during the week 3.2013 in traditional surveillance system in Russia but the nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level registered this week (60.0 per 10 000 of population) continued to be below the national baseline by 10.3%. Epidemic thresholds of ILI and ARI were exceeded in 2 cities (Ufa and Cheboksary) by 67-80.7% and in 4 cities (Barnaul, Ekaterinburg, Kazan and Tomsk) by 22.9-37.9% of 59 base laboratories collaborating with two WHO NICs in Russia.

                              Cumulative number of diagnosed influenza cases

                              Cumulative results of influenza diagnosis by different tests were submitted by 53 RBLs. According to these data as a result of investigation of 2041 patients the overall proportion of respiratory samples positive for influenza virus was estimated as 9.1%, including 4.8% for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, 3.6% for influenza A(H3N2) virus, 0.05% for unsubtyped influenza A virus and 0.7% for influenza B virus. Two influenza A(H3N2) viruses were isolated in Vladivostok (Far-Eastern FD) and Moscow NIC (Central FD), two influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses were isolated in Ekaterinburg (Ural FD).

                              Influenza and ARI morbidity data. Increased influenza activity was registered during the week 3.2013 in traditional surveillance system in Russia but the nationwide ILI & ARI morbidity level registered this week (60.0 per 10 000 of population) continued to be below the national baseline by 10.3%.
                              Etiology of ILI & ARI morbidity. The overall proportion of respiratory samples tested positive for influenza was estimated as 9.1%, including 4.8% for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus, 3.6% for influenza A(H3N2) virus, 0.05% for unsubtyped influenza A virus and 0.7% for influenza B virus. Two influenza A(H3N2) viruses and two influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses were isolated this week. Percent of positive ARI cases of non-influenza etiology (PIV, adeno- and RSV) was estimated as 23.2% by IFA and 19.8% by PCR of investigated patients.
                              Second A(H1N1)pdm09 lethal influenza case was registered from SARI patient in Central FD.
                              In sentinel surveillance system clinical samples from 110 SARI and ILI/ARI patients were investigated by rRT-PCR. As a result 7 (13.0%) influenza cases were detected among 54 SARI patients, including 1 (1.9%) A(H1N1)pdm09 case, 5 (9.3%) influenza A(H3N2) cases and 1 (1.9%) influenza B case. Among 56 ILI/ARI patients 2 (3.6%) influenza cases were detected including one influenza A(H3N2) case and one influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 case.
