Re: Missouri 2012-13 Season: Weeks 41-52 (ILI Drastically Decreases)
Week 52: Regional
ILI: 1.78% (not reporting are all the counties whose ILI has been in the double digits) The decrease is most likely due to holiday closures of several sentinel sites.
ED ILI elevates to ~4% (near threshold). ESSENCE ILI Threshold refers to the mean plus 3 standard deviations of the values during previous influenza seasons (weeks 40-20, 2006-07, 2008-09 and 2010-2011) when influenza activity was low.
The 65 and older age group increased to 9.45%, the 0-4 year age group increased to 3.56%, and the 15-64 year age group increased to 3.02%. The 5-14 year age group decreased to 4.80%.
57% positive for influenza: all B
CDC has antigenically characterized nine isolates so far this influenza season from Missouri: All nine were B/WISCONSIN/01/2010-LIKE. The influenza B/WISCONSIN/01/2010-LIKE was included in the 2012-2013 influenza vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere.
Re: Missouri 2012-13 Season: Weeks 41-1 (ILI Drastically Increases)
Week 1: Widespread
ILI: 5.6% (Callaway 14.5%, Cole 12.89%, Saline 10.32%)
75% positive for influenza; all A/H3 (NOTE: These are State lab results from four specimens. One would surmise that sentinel labs would know these had tested positive for A or AB...not B alone. The majority of rapid results are still suggesting B is the majority circulating in MO)
Hospitalizations: The 5-14 year age group increased to 6.40%, the 0-4 year age group increased to 4.69%, and the 15-64 year age group increased to 3.61%. The 65 and older age group decreased to 9.30%.

CDC has antigenically characterized ten isolates so far this influenza season from Missouri: Nine were B/WISCONSIN/01/2010-LIKE and one was A/Victoria/361/2011-LIKE (H3N2) GP. Both the influenza A (H3N2) component and the influenza B component are in the 2012-2013 influenza vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere.
