Deux personnes ont perdu la vie et 19 autres ont été blessées dans l'explosion qui a eu lieu chez Neptune Technologies à Sherbrooke, jeudi après-midi.
Les corps ont été retrouvés sous les décombres en fin d'après-midi. Une troisième personne a aussi été retrouvée, saine et sauve. Elle aurait trouvé refuge sous un bureau.
La nouvelle a été confirmée en point de presse en soirée. Le Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) a indiqué que sept blessés avaient obtenu leur congé, six étaient toujours sous observation à l'urgence, deux étaient traités à l'hôpital, dont un aux soins intensifs, et quatre autres ont été transférés au Centre des grands brûlés de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal.
Les transferts ont été effectués par hélicoptère pour deux d'entre eux. Les deux autres ont quitté par ambulance.
Au total, les deux urgences du CHUS ont traité 19 personnes en lien avec cette explosion.
Pour transférer des victimes vers le Centre des grands brûlés de Montréal, les blessés doivent avoir été brûlés sur plus de 30 % de leur corps et il doit y avoir atteinte aux voies respiratoires et au visage.

Explosion
C'est un réservoir d'acétone qui aurait explosé. On estime la quantité de ce solvant à 15 000 litres. Des gaz toxiques se dégageaient de l'épaisse colonne de fumée qui s'échappait du brasier et qui était visible à des kilomètres à la ronde. « Pour l'instant, c'est un moindre mal. Les vents dispersent le panache de fumée vers des zones inhabitées », a expliqué le coordonnateur d'Environnement Québec Montérégie-Estrie, Christian Blanchette.
Un grand nombre de pompiers ont été déployés. Ils se sont affairés à refroidir des réservoirs d'azote. La situation n'était toujours pas maîtrisée en début de soirée. Des flammes étaient encore présentes dans certains secteurs de l'entreprise. On prévoyait encore plusieurs heures de travail pour sécuriser les lieux.
Deux pelles mécaniques étaient sur place et travaillaient à défaire l'ensemble du bâtiment.
La CSST a dépêché deux inspecteurs. Ils veillent actuellement à sécuriser la scène et à recueillir les informations entourant l'accident.

SHERBROOKE - Le bilan de l'explosion de jeudi à l'usine de la compagnie Neptune Technologies et Bioressources dans le parc industriel de Sherbrooke s'est alourdi samedi, passant de deux à trois décès.
Le jour de l'explosion, deux personnes avaient été retrouvées mortes dans les décombres. Samedi, c'est une des quatre personnes grièvement brûlées dont l'état avait nécessité leur transfert au Centre des grands brûlés de Montréal qui a rendu l'âme.
Marc Couture est décédé samedi soir. Il souffrait de brûlures sur plus de 90 % de la surface de son corps et était maintenu dans un coma artificiel, alors qu'il luttait pour sa vie depuis jeudi.
Son meilleur ami, José Duguay, qui le connaissait depuis une vingtaine d'années, a donné son accord pour mettre fin à ses souffrances. M. Duguay était au chevet de Marc Couture depuis le tragique événement. Il a indiqué à l'Agence QMI, samedi soir, que son ami l'avait mandaté, dans ses dernières volontés, pour prendre ce type de décision. La décision a été prise notamment «en raison des séquelles permanentes» avec lesquelles la victime aurait eu à vivre.
L'information a été confirmée par l'hôpital. «En fin d'après-midi samedi, les proches avaient demandé à ce que des soins de confort lui soient prodigués, ce qui a été fait en début de soirée», a indiqué la porte-parole du CHUM, Sylvie Robitaille.
Marc Couture était père de trois enfants. M. Duguay a tenu à préciser que la famille ne désirait pas être contactée par les médias.
