Thanks for posting. I have wondered how this works.

I plugged in my zip code (in Florida) and got a list of pharmacies that supposedly have the flu shot in stock.

I called the first 3 on the list.

At first when I called, all of them said they have shots available. When I queried how many I was told "very few". After I specifically asked a pharmacist at the 3rd pharmacy he told me that they have a total of 6 shots.

John Brownstein informed me that they are working to keep the list current. However, he also advises people to call the local vaccine provider before going to assure availability.

He also told me that his group has not received any funds for this vaccine availability project.

I was just in a CVS and they were packed with people lining up for the vax. Public Service Announcements about the flu have been running for the past few weeks. Now that more deaths have been reported around the country, some are listening.

The Governor of New York just declared a flu emergency authorizing pharmacies to dispense flu vaccine. His press release says to access the healthmap list for availability. I hope the pharmacies listed have enough supply.

I thought it was common place for Pharmacists to give vaccines? Here in California, they have been doing for last three years. My search area gave 3 pharmacies available for flu vaccine, but no pediatric. My son found vaccines for his whole family at a random family practice in our area and they had enough, so I think the key is to just call random places versus big name stores. Still hard to find. I guess they will learn next year to get one earlier, but this is an odd year..
