    Bloemfontein - Two cases of Congo Fever have been reported in the Bloemfontein area in the past week, Beeld reported on Monday.

    Bloemfontein businessman Tommy Marx, 44, was in a critical condition in the Life-Rosepark Hospital after he contracted the virus on New Year's Day, after being bitten on one of his fingers by a Hyalomma tick.

    Bloemfontein businessman Tommy Marx is in a critical condition in a Bloemfontein hospital after contracting Congo fever, reports Volksblad.

    Tommy is the second patient to be treated for the virus in Bloemfontein. Johannes Ngwato, a reserve assistant at the Kalkfontien nature reserve outside Fau-resmith was discharged on Friday. He was admitted on New Year?s eve after contracting the Congo virus.

      Mpumalanga farmer down with Congo fever

      Johannesburg - A farmer who has been diagnosed with Congo fever, a life-threatening disease, has been admitted to a Pretoria hospital.

      On Sunday, Dr Lucille Blumberg, from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), confirmed that the man, who is in his forties, was diagnosed with Congo fever.

      She said the man was transferred from a hospital in Mpumalanga on Friday before the tests confirmed that he had the disease. Tests had been run while he was still in Mpumalanga because it was suspected he had Congo fever.
