Nine-year-old girl dies from the flu

County health officials say a fourth grader from Columbia Elementary School in Bakersfield has died from the flu. School officials say the 9-year-old girl was considered healthy with no underlying health conditions. She had not received a flu shot and had died Thursday from influenza A.

Nine-year-old girl Kern's first flu death of season

A 9-year-old girl is the first person in Kern County to die from the flu this season, public health officials announced Friday.
The child, identified as a student in the Fruitvale School District, died Thursday, health officials said during a 2 p.m. news conference at the Kern County Public Health Services Department..
