That's it, chikungunya arrived in Guadeloupe, the first confirmed case involves a child, it is supported by a medical team. Vigilance is required.

This is far from a Christmas near the northern islands, Martinique and Guyana, it is the turn of Guadeloupe to be affected by chikungunya. The first confirmed case of the disease comes to be revealed by the ARS, regional health agency, it is a child who has been treated by his doctor.

He no longer has the clinical signs of disease, including fever and joint pain, but contamination has been confirmed. Aedes mosquito attention aegypri vector of chikungunya as dengue to prevent an epidemic.

In wet weather, be very alert to favorite breeding of mosquitoes. They like to deploy in moisture and standing water.

        Epidemiological update Guadeloupe

On december 24 2013 a locally acquired cases of chikungunya has been confirmed.

Two other cases have been confirmed, one of them was imported from St Martin.

26 cases are clinical suspect, testresults are pending.

Of the 3 confirmed cases, 2 were co-infected with dengue virus.

        3 janvier 2014

        Conclusions générales

                  estimated at 790
, the cumulative number of consultations for
signs clinically suggestive of chikungunya .
The weekly number of cases clinically suggestive
was steadily increasing since the beginning of the monitoring
but stabilized during the last week
January ( 2014-05 ) , this stabilization can of course
be very transient (Figure 13a ).

To 02.05.2014 , 175 confirmed or probable cases of chikungunya

with a visible net increase in the

                    February 14, 2014

                    Current epidemiological situation in Guadeloupe

Since week S2013 -50, the cumulative number of cases
clinically suggestive of chikungunya seen in medicine
city is estimated at 1,120 cases
                    . After growing
steady 60% per week since week - S2014
02 , the weekly number of patients
                    clinical signs suggestive of chikungunya
stabilized (with an average of 250 consultations per week )
                    from week S2014 -04 data
last week course may be temporary
                    ( Figure 13a )

Biological monitoring has identified a total of 253
confirmed or probable cases of Chikungunya .

A net increase in the weekly number of
cases was observed between week S2014 -02 (38 cases) and
                    week S2014 -05 ( 81 cases ) (Figure 13b) . week
S2014 -05 is the beginning of biological confirmation
cases by the laboratory of the University Hospital of Pointe-?- Pitre
in addition to other clinical laboratories
already performing bioassays ( CNR Arbovirus
Institut Pasteur de Guyane , Irba in Marseille laboratories
CERBA / Biomnis ) . This increase in "supply" can
explain part of the increase in reported cases
                    S2014 -05 on weekdays . The data for the week - 2S014
06 should be consolidated which makes interpretation
                    difficult for this week.

No probable or confirmed cases have been hospitalized CH Basse-Terre .
Five hospitalizations were recorded related to chikungunya in CHU
Pointe ? Pitre two hospitalizations in young children. Among these
hospitalizations were classified into two common forms of the disease and
                    three are being classified .

                    Conclusions for Guadeloupe

The weekly number of cases clinically suggestive of chikungunya has stabilized over the last three weeks.
In contrast, the weekly number of probable or confirmed cases , after a three-week stability , shows a
net increase during the last week of January should be confirmed, the data of the week
S2014 -06 to be consolidated. From the point of view of geographical extension, the leeward coast is still free
vis-? -vis the virus but the focus of transmission identified in the municipality of Baie- Mahault is still active.
This confirms a still active circulation of the virus in Guadeloupe remaining in the epidemiological situation
a moderate indigenous transmission of the virus, corresponding to Phase 2 of Psage .

                      Conclusions for Guadeloupe

The weekly number of cases clinically suggestive of chikungunya is stable for 4 weeks. increasing
weekly number of probable or confirmed cases observed until week S2014 -05 , has stalled the week

From the point of view of geographical extension, the leeward coast and nearby islands are still untouched by the virus
but the focus of transmission identified in the municipality of Baie- Mahault remains active and generates the appearance of
                      case in neighboring municipalities.

This confirms a still active circulation of the virus in Guadeloupe but so far remains in the
epidemiological situation of moderate Aboriginal transmission , corresponding to Phase 2 of Psage .

                        February 28, 2014

                        Current epidemiological situation in Guadeloupe

After a steady increase in the number of cases clinically
                        suggestive of chikungunya between weeks
                        S2014 -02 to 2014-04 and stabilization 4 weeks
                        following ( S2014 -04 S2014 -07 ), we observed a trend
to decrease the number of cases
                        clinically
                        evocative week S2014 -08 ( Figure 11). the next
weeks will confirm whether or not this
decrease . In total, 1,460 cases clinically suggestive of
chikungunya seen in general practice was estimated
                        since monitoring began .

In total 476 probable or confirmed cases of chikungunya
are reported since 24 December 2013
                        . the number
weekly of these cases continued to rise until
                        week S2014 -06 ( Figure 12 ) . The data of
                        weeks S2014 -07 and S2014 -08 should be consolidated
given the time to obtain certain results.
From the third week of February , levies
organic are now routed to the Pasteur Institute
of Guadeloupe , which replaces CNR Arbovirus
based Cayenne which could improve delays in obtaining
biological results. It was also pointed
                        GPs not to confirm systematically
cases in the area of Baie- Mahault area
active epidemic , except in patients where
it is absolutely necessary for medical care
so as not to saturate the biological resources.

After stabilization of the weekly number of cases clinically suggestive of chikungunya for 4 weeks
a decrease is observed in the third week of February which must be confirmed next week . after
increase the weekly number of probable or confirmed cases until early February , a decrease was also
observed from the second week of February , however, data 2nd and 3rd weeks of f?vriersont
to consolidate. From the point of view of geographical extension , only 9 towns remain free of the virus which the
Saintes and La D?sirade . Marie- Galante is now affected . The focus of transmission in the municipality of Baie-
                        Mahault remains very active.

This confirms a still active circulation of the virus in Guadeloupe but so far remains in the
epidemiological situation of moderate autochtonous transmission , corresponding to Phase 2 of Psage .

Guadeloupe: 6 deaths "linked" with chikungunya

Six deaths "related to chikungunya" were recorded in Guadeloupe since the beginning of the epidemic, but one of these deaths "is directly related to the disease."

Six deaths "related to chikungunya" were recorded in Guadeloupe since the beginning of the epidemic in December, but one of these deaths "is directly related to the disease," that of "an elderly patient in whom the infection caused vomiting and led to a fatal lung infection, "announced Tuesday the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Guadeloupe and the Institute of Health Surveillance (VS) in a joint statement.

The ARS Guadeloupe and InVS recall that 6 other deaths were also attributed to chikungunya in Guadeloupe "cumulative data from the single operating death certificates signed by doctors of town or UAS are reporting 6 deaths where the word chikungunya is advanced into the causes of death, "the statement said.

                          199 hospitalizations

He points out that among the 199 hospitalizations related to chikugunya "identified to date" in Guadeloupe, "165 were evaluated and ranked (and) 24 people hospitalized had severe form of the disease, a rate of 15%" .

The Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Marisol Touraine, must stay in Guadeloupe and Martinique, the two French departments of the Americas affected by chikungunya epidemic, from Wednesday to Friday in order to understand the diversity of structures and actors invested in the fight against the epidemic.
