There has been a sudden rise in the number of cases of dengue and malaria specially in Salcete. In January as many as 19 cases of dengue have been reported. The viral disease which is transmitted by Aedes Aegypti feeds during the day. People usually take precautions against mosquitoes during the night but seldom during the day, hence they should be advised to take precautionary measures against mosquito bites during the day as well. Tourists entering the state could be carriers of the dengue virus, so any tourist who complains of fever should mandatorily be tested for dengue.

Recently, around eight cases of dengue among resident doctors sprung the hospital administration into action. Of the three who required admission, two continue to be hospitalized.
