Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Some eight suspected bird flu patients were admitted to Adam Malik Hospital in the North Sumatran city of Medan on Sunday night, a hospital spokesman said on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said early this month that a male resident of Rawa Buaya in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, who died of bird flu on September 28, had brought the total number of people so far affected by the virus in Indonesia to 107 and the number of deaths by the disease to 86.

The ministry said tests carried out on the blood samples of the man, identified only by his initial as AR, by its Research and Development Laboratory had shown that he was infected with the bird flu virus.

"With the test results, the number of confirmed bird flu patients in Indonesia has reached 107 of whom 86 have died," the ministry`s spokeswoman, Lily S Sulistyowati, said in Jakarta recently.
