Default partial 2005 test results

Thanks to Bruce for pointing out an Alaskan USGS ppt, we can see the results of the 2005 testing, including some % for normal AI.

see ppt presentation here.

the note on slide #52 - it gives the % of results that had postives for IA of any type....

Best of all I FINALLY saw some results from my state - 2.6%, 2.9, & 4.9% of tests were AI positive. That seems really low, but then this is a very remote area, & asymptomatic carriers may have died en route, when their immune systems partially shut down (per Kevin Winker, UAF). Which would have resulted in low test results.

Or there is a tad of a testing problem.

NIH has a list of LPAI scheduled for sequencing from Ohio, which includes 2005 isolates from Alaska (no H5N1 or any H5).

Nice document!

Just sad we can't copy Text and Image...

That's an example of credible document, when wilds bird are tested, they find avian flu of many subtype, most of them are LP and 5% positive match data seen elsewhere.

O% positive in africa and europe now, that is not credible...

Now I can sleep better.

Both because there isn't even LP H5 and because it appears the testing is reliable.

Thanks, Dr. Niman

Id' like to compare it to Canada's test results. Since their wild bird AI might get recycled through commercial flocks, I suppose that could yield different results.

Yes Dr.Niman,

Quote:
Negative data however, provides little useful information unless it is accompanied by positive data demonstrating that the collection and testing procedures are valid. The positive control for such data is low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), which is common in wild waterfowl.
That's very very right, extraction and reaction control is part of good laboratory practices and Negative data without theses controls are worthless.

Thanks Mingus and Dr. Niman.

I see that Mallards are a species to watch. We have some overwintering Mallards in our more populated areas. They stay in the few sources of open water and have found sources of winter food, despite people being discouraged from feeding them.

It's easy to see how ducks/birds concentraing in small areas of open water form the perfect petri dish.

IF we get BF here, I'd want to see the overwintering Mallard issue have a permanent solution.
