Looking at the name of the village ( Tanduk Ampel) this report seems to refer to the family hospitalized in Solo Hospital , or the toddler who is still in hospital. It is not clear if this is an update or older news, published today. Another possibility is: a new patient from the same village.

The blood test(s) , together with clinical symptoms, indicated a suspicion of avian flu.

Negative Bird Flu

Comment Commonground

[This is regarding Ny. Agl (30) who entered the hospital on 11/29. She had no direct contact with poultry. Upon admission had a temp of 39 degrees. While there, she had 6 bottles of "infuse", and removed the oxygen tube from her nose, personally, against the nurses orders. Her onset of symptoms was 11/23, throat pain, cough, followed by breathlessness and the inability to swallow. She passed away on 12/1.

There was mention in one article that her child was also admitted along with her. We know that in order to become a "suspect" in their guidelines, you have to have had contact with chicken/birds. Which she did not. And it's mentioned in this article, bolded below. ]

The above translation describes the death of a suspect H5N1 patient from Semarang, Indonesia. The patient dies shortly after transfer to the infectious disease hospital, so lab confirmation remains uncertain. As noted in the translation, the assumption is that the patient was H5N1 infected.

An earlier patient also died and was lab confirmed, based on statements by the attending physician. However, the Ministry of Health denied that the lab results were positive.

The death of these patients and failure to confirm / report these cases increases concerns associated with H5N1 expansion in Indonesia.
