Thank you Iron., Common., and Dr. Niman for your answers.

Scarry illness indeed.

After these events and the .../Dr. Nidom suggestion, maybe they would switch to poultry non-vaccination.

From the photo in post 363 (http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/sho...ostcount=363): patient isn't on respirator yet.

Perhaps she could be already in pre-agonic phase so HCW avoided further treatment, especially invasive and at risk for medics and nurses.

Siblings, Ikah (35) and Aning (30), residents of Kecamatan Cigedug Kabupaten Garut suspected to be infected by avian influenza (AI) virus or bird flu. Until today noon (25/3), they both are still under treatment at dr Slamet hospital, Garut.

Madjid explained that about a week ago, their neighbor’s chickens suddenly died. After that some people within the neighborhood developed breathing problem sign but not as severe as Ikah and Aning.

The above translation describes a suspect H5N1 cluster in Garut, Indonesia (see updated map). Two brothers are in isolation with bird flu symptoms. Milder cases have been reported in the neighborhood, but the neighbors are not hospitalized. Dead poultry is being tested.

The cases are likely H5N1 infected, and may test positive because the cases are advanced. If neighbors improve it is not likely that they will be hospitalized or tested. Thus cluster has some similarities with an earlier cluster in Garut, but is considerably smaller, at this time.

More information on disease onset dates of the siblings and neighbors will be useful.

A 2 years & 6 months old bird-flu suspect has been referred to Arifin
Achmad General Hospital in Pekanbaru after receiving several days of
treatment at Ibnu Sina Hospital. Arifin Achmad Hospital's bird flu
response team coordinator Azizman Saad said the patient had to be
referred to his hospital because the symptoms of bird flu he displayed
-- high fever, breathing difficulties and coughing -- had not abated.

"Not only did his fever reach 40 C when he arrived at the hospital,
but he also displayed all the signs of someone suffering from bird
flu. Preliminary tests also showed a high amount of liquid in his
lungs. The patient is still being treated in the bird flu isolation
ward and still holds the status of suspect," Azizman told The Jakarta

samples to the Health Ministry's Medical Health and Development

I think these statements are incorrect:

Post #380:
Wahyu was admitted as birdflu suspect last Friday after he had been treated at another hospital for six days.

Post #377:
The revelation could be also treated in RS Ibnu Sina Pekanbaru for six days, before finally was reconciled to RSUD Arifin Achmad after being diagnosed as suspect bird flu.

I believe this is correct:

Post #375:
Wahyu Ibnu Saputra
blew out the last breath after six days were treated in the Public Hospital of Daerah Arifin Ahmad, Pekanbaru, Riau, on Thursday (26/3).

The two siblings from Garut seem to improve.

Bird flu suspect patient dies in Indonesia

www.chinaview.cn 2009-03-26

JAKARTA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- A two-year boy suspected of contracting bird flu, identified as Wahyu Ibnu Saputra, died at Arifin Achmad Public Hospital in Pekanbaru, capital of Indonesia' s Riau Province on Thursday.

Wahyu died after suffering a respiratory problem and falling unconscious, Antara news agency quoted Dr Azizman Saad, coordinator of the bird flu control at the Arifin Achmad hospital, as saying in Pekanbaru on Thursday.

The boy died at around 2 a.m. local time on Thursday, he said.

However, the hospital could not confirmed the cause of Wahyu's death, whether it was because of H5N1 (bird flu) virus or not, as the hospital was still waiting for the result of laboratory test of the patient's blood sample.

Meanwhile, the Garut Health Service in West Java province has recorded 46 cases of bird flu in Garut District up to March 23, 2009.

The 46 cases included one surviving bird flu patient, four dead bird flu victims, 36 surviving bird flu suspects and five dead bird flu suspects, Antara quoted Dr Hendy Budiman, head of the Garut health service, as saying on Thursday.

The district health authorities also found two new bird flu suspects in Cintanagara village, Cigedug sub-district, recently, he said.

The two bird flu suspects were currently being treated at a local hospital and their condition were improving, he said.

Around 50 chickens died suddenly in the village of the patients, he said, adding that his office was currently investigating the sudden death of the chickens.

Indonesia is the hardest hit country by the bird flu in the world. The Health Ministry of the country said on March 19 said that 119 people had been killed by the disease since 2003.

Toddler dies of bird flu

JAKARTA -

A TWO-YEAR boy died of suspected bird flu on Thursday in a hospital in Indonesia, the country hardest hit by the virus, medical workers said.

The boy died after more than a week of treatment at a hospital in Pekanbaru, Riau province, a hospital nurse who identified herself as Susi told AFP.

A doctor at the hospital, Arifin Achmad, earlier said the boy was suffering from a high fever and severe breathing difficulties.

Health ministry spokesman Lily Sulistyowati said authorities had not yet completed the two separate tests needed to confirm if the boy was infected by the deadly H5N1 virus, and did not expect to announce the results immediately.

'We are not making the test results public on a case-by-case basis but will be announcing them every three months,' Ms Sulistyowati said.

The ministry last year stopped confirming individual bird flu deaths, instead opting to announce them in groups weeks or months later.

The H5N1 virus typically spreads from birds to humans through direct contact, but experts fear it could mutate into a form easily transmissible between humans, with the potential to kill millions in a pandemic.

According to the WHO, H5N1 has killed more than 250 people across the world since 2003. Indonesia's official bird flu death toll stands at 115.

The last WHO update for Indonesia was on January 22, 2009. That update reported on two human cases with onset in December of 2008. No human cases have been confirmed by WHO in Indonesia with onset dates after January 1, 2009. Listed below are 5 human H5N1 cases with onset dates after January 1 that have been locally confirmed and reported in Indonesia news media. There may be others, so additions, updates, or corrections to this list are requested.

My notes showed that she was initially confirmed but I was incorrect. Dutchy pointed me in the right direction. Here is a link to the negative confirmation of both Maya Suparni and Muhammad Heru.
