Thailand Reports Three New A (H1N1) Deaths
BANGKOK, July 13 (Bernama) -- Thailand's public health ministry confirmed three new deaths from the Influenza A (H1N1) on Monday, bringing the country's total fatalities to 21, Thailand News Agency (TNA) reported quoting Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai as saying here.
The country's 19th death from the Influenza type A (H1N1) was a 13-year-old boy in Bangkok.
The youth died on July 6 and lab tests confirmed the new flu virus strain was the cause of his death.
The other new deaths are a 46-year-old woman in the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon and a 53-year-old woman in Bangkok.
The Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 329 new flu cases, raising the total number to 3,883 cases.
Nine patients in serious condition have been placed under close medical surveillance.
Deputy Prime Minister Maj-Gen. Sanan Kachornprasart, chairman of the national influenza committee, said he would propose providing medical service to people in their communities countrywide at a committee meeting at Government House on Tuesday.
The costs of medical mobile vans will be discussed at the meeting. He would also raise the issue of the cost of the H1N1 lab test, which is around 3,500 baht per case, he said.
Government hospitals should provide free lab tests, he said.
Meanwhile he could only ask for cooperation from private hospitals to reduce the price, he added.
He said he would seek the budget of ten million baht from the public health ministry to purchase 10 million hygiene masks for distribution to the public particularly bus passengers. He will also seek a budget of Bt70 million baht for a public relation campaigns to promote wearing masks.
