Four more people have succumbed to influenza A (H1N1) in India, taking the death toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 1401, an official statement said here today.
One of the deaths was reported during the day from Maharashtra. Besides, three deaths that occurred earlier - two in Madhya Pradesh and one in Maharashtra - were reported to the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today, it said.
Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra accounts for 382, while 299 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 194 in Rajasthan, 148 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Punjab, 38 in Haryana, 37 in Kerala, 28 in Madhya Pradesh, 19 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
The statement said 24 new cases of the flu were reported today, including 15 in Maharashtra, 6 in Karnataka, and 1 each in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,880, the statement added.
