There has been an influenza H1N1 related death in the South Zone, 17 people have been hospitalized and three are in intensive care units, as of Jan. 7, according to details released by Alberta Health on Wednesday.
There are now 71 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1 in this zone and another four cases have not been typed. A week ago the South Zone had just 10 people hospitalized for H1N1 and there were only 36 confirmed cases.
Alberta Health Service?s (AHS) South Zone includes Oyen, Bassano, Brooks, Vauxhall, Picture Butte, Granum, Blairmore and areas south and east of those including of course Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.
