Two new casualties reported in new flu infection spread
The new flu made another two victims in Romania, this weekend.
A 27 year-old woman, who had given birth to a baby girl only three days before, died, on Friday, in the Intensive Care ward of the Constanta County Clinical Emergency Hospital.
The board of the Constanta County Clinical Emergency Hospital decided to restrict the visitors? access to the unit?s medical wards after the Cantacuzino Institute confirmed the young woman had been infected with the A/H1N1 virus.
The manager of the Constanta County Hospital, Danut Capatana, stated that the measure to restrict access had been instituted on Friday night.
?The patient died from a cardio-respiratory arrest. We suspect this was caused by the A/H1N1 flu and we?ve taken samples which were sent for analysis to the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest,? the head of the Constanta County Public Health Direction (DSPJ), Constantin Dina, stated, on Friday.
The young woman?s body was taken to the morgue for autopsy, to find the cause of death.
The director of Constanta DSPJ further stated that the newborn, a baby girl, was kept in the Newborn Ward, and appeared to be in very good condition, without any flu signs.
At the same time, a 53-year-old man from Magura Ilvei, diagnosed with A/H1N1 flu, who had been interned, in critical condition, in the Intensive Care ward of the Bistrita-Nasaud County Emergency Hospital, died, on Friday night. According to the spokesperson for the hospital, the man checked into hospital on January 21, in the Infectious Disease ward of the County Emergency Hospital, and was initially diagnosed with acute pneumonia. The doctors add he was also suffering from heart and respiratory failure and obesity. On January 23, samples were taken and sent to the Cantacuzino Institute and, on Wednesday, it was confirmed he had contracted the A/H1N1 virus. The man?s condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the hospital?s Intensive Care ward, where he was put on antibiotics.
