Argentina expects little impact from influenza A (H1N1)

09 de April 2010, 07:09 Buenos Aires, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) Argentine experts now hope that the vaccination campaign implemented by the Ministry of Health of the Nation will result in less impact of influenza A (H1N1) in the next winter.
I think we'll have a prevalence lower than last year, said yesterday the owner of the Fundaci?n Centro de Estudios infectious diseases specialist (FUNCEI), Daniel Stambouli.
Fighting is also president of Infectious Diseases in Emerging Countries (FIDEC) emphasized the great effort made by the Argentine government to buy 11 million vaccines against influenza virus to protect the population at risk.
He also stressed that implementing in Argentina "is a safe and effective" and said it is unnecessary to be alarmed by the few cases of influenza A that are registered in the country today.
Stambouli's opinion was supported also by the president of the Argentina Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (SADIP), Eduardo Lopez, who said the country is in a good time and with adequate scope for prevention.
Lee also drew attention to that "in no way is there to oppose the monovalent vaccine against trivalent influenza with" containing the pandemic strain (H1N1), and two other strains of influenza-A (H3N2) and B -.
He explained that was the World Health Organization (WHO), as a result of the pandemic last year ordered the labs to restrict the production of trivalent vaccine to prioritize the production of monovalent.
Argentina was the first country to start a vaccination campaign against influenza A (H1N1) in February, in order to be sheltered for the winter season of 2010.
Between May 2009 and 26 last February (when the last official report issued) in the country is 28 thousand 792 samples analyzed, of which 12 thousand 080 were confirmed cases of influenza A.
The number of deaths associated with this flu virus rose to 626 in 21 provinces.
