Doctors are being urged to look out for signs of measles after two new cases of the highly contagious virus were linked to a recent university graduation ceremony at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.

On Monday, Victoria's chief health officer Dr Rosemary Lester issued an alert to hospitals and GPs about two unvaccinated people being diagnosed with the serious illness. Both had attended an RMIT graduation ceremony at Etihad Stadium on December 17...

HEALTH authorities fear a man with measles infected others when he spent 30 minutes shopping at a Bunnings store on the weekend.

Metro South Health says he was at the hardware store in Mt Gravatt between 8am and 8.30am Saturday.

Public health physician Dr Kari Jarvinen said several other customers may have been exposed and he feared more cases of measles would be diagnosed over the next few weeks.

He said residents on Brisbane?s southside in particular needed to be alert for symptoms, especially those who were not sure of their immunity to the highly infectious disease...

A MEASLES alert has been issued for Brisbane?s south after an infected person visited several cafes, hotels and Suncorp Stadium earlier this month.

The person, who has since been diagnosed with measles, was infectious when they went to restaurants at Coorparoo, Caxton St and Greenslopes.

On March 1 at lunchtime they went to Little Sista cafe in Coorparoo and on March 3 they went to the Jubilee Hotel in Fortitude Valley at night.

On March 5 they went to the Caxton Hotel, Hotel LA and the Broncos? game at Suncorp Stadium.

They also went to Emporium in Fortitude Valley on March 8 and Kafe Me at Greenslopes Mall on March 9 on lunchtime...

Queensland paramedic struck down with measles prompts urgent health warning

A health warning has been issued in Queensland after an ambulance officer was infected with measles.

The 32-year-old man is in hospital in a serious condition after he was diagnosed with measles today.

Authorities do not know exactly how the man contracted the disease but are keen to get in contact with anyone who came into contact with the paramedic while he was infectious between May 10 and 18.

This includes staff and patients who were at Lady Cilento or Princess Alexandra hospitals on May 11, or Princess Alexandra, Greenslopes Private Hospital and QEII on May 12...

Queensland Health has issued a measles alert after a man flew into Brisbane from Dubai with the virus.

The man went on to visit a second-hand shop at Mount Gravatt and Woolworths at Whites Hill on Friday about lunchtime...

...The man was on Emirates' flight EK 432 from Dubai, with a Singapore stopover, arriving in Brisbane 12:40am Friday...

Measles alert in Brisbane's west

Queensland's health authority has issued a measles alert, after a student from Brisbane's west returned from an overseas trip with the highly infectious disease.

Metro North Health and Health Service said the Taringa man had visited a number of places in the city's west over the four days while he was infectious.

Public Health physician Dr James Smith said the student did not yet have a rash when he attended various locations on Brisbane's north side last week.

They included:

Brisbane airport's domestic terminal on Wednesday, July 15. He was a passenger on Qantas flight QF524 from Sydney.

University of Queensland, St Lucia between Thursday, July 16 and Saturday, July 18
Indooroopilly Shopping Centre on July 16 and 17...

Second measles case at University of Queensland

A measles alert for Brisbane's south has widened with a second university attendee diagnosed.

For the second time in a week the health department is urging University of Queensland students to be on the lookout for symptoms and pleading with adults to check their vaccinations.

The latest patient attended lectures at the UQ Faculty of Engineering on Monday and Tuesday and the Alumni Court on Monday while infected with the disease.

He also visited Coles Fairfield late Sunday afternoon and early Wednesday afternoon before heading to the Prince of India restaurant in the evening.

A BRISBANE university is facing a measles outbreak after a third person was infected with the virus this month.

Queensland Health issued a measles warning last Tuesday when it was revealed a student at the University of Queensland had contracted the virus.

The person went to the University of Queensland?s St Lucia campus for lectures with the UQ Faculty of Business on July 29, July 31 and August 3 before heading to a pub and catching public transport.

Queensland Health today was forced to reissue the warning after two further cases were reported at the university...

A fifth case of measles in as many weeks has raised concerns about what could happen if the outbreak spreads beyond university grounds.

University of Queensland infectious diseases management expert Dr Simon Reid said controlling such a highly infectious disease in such a dense population centre was difficult, with hundreds of students potentially exposed in a single lecture.

Queensland Health on Thursday confirmed a fifth case of measles in a student based at UQ's St Lucia campus, just a day after the fourth case was revealed...

An outbreak of measles at the University of Queensland (UQ) is likely to spread across Brisbane after the latest patient caught an international flight, Queensland Health warns.

The Metro North Public Health Unit (PHU) said a seventh student had been diagnosed with the highly contagious virus in five weeks.

The latest patient travelled on Singapore Airlines flight SQ235, which arrived in Brisbane on Saturday, August 15...

University student with measles visits Queen Street Mall, Spring Hill and St Lucia

Another university student is the eighth confirmed case in a recent measles outbreak in Brisbane.

It is the latest case of the highly contagious virus linked to the University of Queensland (UQ) at St Lucia since late July, according to Queensland Health.

Metro North Public Health Unit (MNPHU) public health physician Dr James Smith said the student was infectious while attending classes at UQ Business School between August 25 and August 27.

As well as the university, the student visited the following locations in Brisbane while infectious:

Westfield Garden City, Mt Gravatt late afternoon on August 26
City Beach, Queen Street Mall in evening on August 26
George's Paragon Seafood Restaurant in evening on August 26
Coffee Club Eagle Street Pier, Brisbane in afternoon on August 28
Beijing House, Queen Street in evening on August 28
Woolworths, Spring Hill, late morning on August 29
Hanaro Mart, Spring Hill, early afternoon on August 29

At the confirmation of the seventh case last month, Dr Smith said further measles cases were likely because none of the victims realised they were highly infectious while on campus and in the community...

More measles cases traced to University of Queensland

Another two people have been diagnosed with measles after an outbreak at the University of Queensland's (UQ) Brisbane campus, taking the total number to 10.

Unlike previous cases, the two latest patients are not students at UQ, but both have links to a known UQ case.

Dr James Smith from the Metro North Hospital and Health Service warned the pair had been in several public locations while infectious:

Ipswich/Rosewood train line between Zillmere and Toowong on September 2 and 3
Toowong Village Shopping Centre, between 4pm and 8pm on September 1, 2 and 3
Shell Service Station, Coronation Drive, Milton on September 2
7-Eleven, Creek Road, Carina about 10pm on September 4

Dr Smith urged the general public to avoid work, school and social gatherings if they were unwell in a bid to stop the outbreak spreading further...

...The adult patient, who recently returned from Singapore, had spent time in retail outlets in Rouse Hill, Parramatta, Wentworthville, and Kings Langley on November 26 and 27 while infectious, the Western Sydney Local Health District said.

The patient also attended two medical centres in Castle Hill and Carlingford between November 28 to 30, Blacktown Hospital?s emergency department on November 30 and caught local buses around Castle Hill...

SA Health confirmed that a 12-year-old girl contracted the illness and was contagious when she attended Ardtornish Primary School at St Agnes and Modbury High School at Modbury between November 30 and December 4.
