There have been three cases of measles on the North Shore, including Bowen Island, and Dr. R?ka Gustafson, Vancouver Coastal Health?s medical director of communicable disease control, says this is a very unusual occurrence. She is urging Bowen Islanders to check their family vaccination records and, if they haven?t had two shots of the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) immunization, get a booster shot now...

Measles exposure possible for cross-border shoppers

B.C. consumers who travelled south of the border last weekend to shop at Costco in Bellingham or at Bellis Fair may have been exposed to measles. The Whatcom County Health Department has issued a warning that someone who shopped at those two locations last Saturday may have been contagious.

Officials say patrons who were at Costco between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or at the Bellis Fair Mall between noon and 4 p.m. may have been exposed...

A recent measles outbreak in the Seato-Sky Corridor appears to be under control.

Following an outbreak in which four cases of the serious infection were reported last week in the Whistler-Pemberton area, a Vancouver Coastal Health spokesperson says they have not had any further cases.

"We don't have any new cases since what we announced last Friday," said Vancouver Coastal Health's Tiffany Akins on Wednesday...

Measles Virus Exposed To Newborns In Abbotsford, Fraser Health Says

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Fraser Health Authority says as many as 60 newborns and their mothers were exposed to the measles virus by a visitor to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

Health staff are now contacting the affected families to offer them treatment to lower the chances of infection.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Paul Van Buynder said the exposure of the infants is very concerning...

Fraser Health issued a warning Friday for all residents and health-care professionals to be alert for measles after several individuals in the were recently diagnosed with the disease.

There are currently four confirmed cases of measles in communities across Fraser Health (Burnaby, Surrey, Abbotsford and Chilliwack), and several more additional cases have symptoms consistent with measles, according to the notice.

While most cases of measles occur from travellers bringing measles back from another country, of concern is that most of these cases have no known exposure to measles...

A measles outbreak first detected two months ago continues to spread through the Fraser Health region, an area in southern British Columbia that contains 1.6 million people and extends from Burnaby to Hope.

Tracing back from the seven patients who have so far been detected with the highly infectious disease, health authorities have identified hundreds of people who might have been exposed ? but they have failed to detect the original carrier...

...She said the most recent case, detected Friday, involves a three-year-old girl, but it isn?t known yet how she came in contact with the disease...
