Mysterious disease hits Darbhanga, claims 2
Binay Kumar Jha | Jun 29, 2011, 12.20am IST
DARBHANGA: Mohd Kismat Ansari (12) and Mohd Mukhtar Ansari (10), both sons of Mohd Jabbar Ansari of village Afzala Tola under the Biraul police station, died of a mysterious disease on Tuesday and their 8-year old sister Shabana khatoon is struggling for life in a private clinic at Biraul market.
Biraul SHO SN Mishra confirmed the two deaths and said that the three children were first taken to Biraul PHC and from there to a private clinic where the two children died and the girl is being treated in a serious condition. Biraul PHC in-charge Ganga Nand Jha told TOI over phone that the three children from the same family were brought to PHC on Tuesday morning. Kismat and Mukhtar were suffering from high fever and Mukhtar was even gasping.
Father of the children Mohd Jabbar communicated him that all his three children became ill since Monday night. Jha further said that all the three were very serious, so, after some initial treatment, he referred them to DMCH for expert management. However, instead of taking them to DMCH, Jabbar took them to a private clinic where the two died. When asked if they were suffering from encephalitis, Jha said it only medical investigation can disclose the exact cause of the death.
Darbhanga civil surgeon Lakhindra Prasad told TOI that considering a similar disease severely hitting the children of adjoining Muzaffarpur district, the district health administration had become alert after the two deaths. He had constituted a three-member committee, led by Dr Mridul Kumar Shukla, to probe the deaths of two children. Shukla has been asked to report to the civil surgeon within 24 hours. The civil surgeon said he would visit the area on Wednesday.
