Avian flu isolates a community that had contact with birds (no suspected cases)

Citizens are quarantined in a school for contact with infected birds.
03/06/23

The health personnel take epidemiological collection with the people who had contact with the chickens. BRANCHES

A dozen people who were in direct contact with chickens infected with the H5N1 avian influenza virus were quarantined in the community of Cotagaitilla, Nor Chichas province of the Department of Potosí.

So far, no one has presented symptoms or been confirmed with a probable infection with the virus, said the head of epidemiology of the Departmental Health Service (Sedes), Huáscar Alarcón.

He said that ten days of incubation are expected to detect whether or not people are infected but, for safety, their isolation was arranged in an educational unit of the Cotagaitilla community, which is between Atocha and Cotagaita.

In that community of the municipality, the outbreak of avian influenza was detected in 15 backyard birds that were then slaughtered. It is the first case in Potosí.

Among the isolated people is the citizen who transports the rooster, his mother and his two children. Also six other people who were possibly on the plot where the virus outbreak was identified.

It is rare for the avian virus to occur in humans, but if this were the case, the blockade will be carried out immediately to avoid any human contingency.

People, before being isolated, were trained for any symptoms they might have. They explained to them that the symptoms are similar to the H1N1 flu. At the slightest symptom, they must report to the health personnel who follow up on the unusual case presented.

The most susceptible to contagion is the person who transported the rooster on public transport, but his symptoms are closely followed.

According to epidemiological data, in the world there were at least seven cases of human infection with the H5N1 virus; that is, animal-to-human contagion.
