Blood test indicates changes in the liver of patients killed after MRI

A blood test in three patients who died in Campinas, after doing a brain MRI with contrast, private hospital in Vera Cruz, pointed suffering liver necrosis and liver in all patients.
According to Municipal Sanitary Surveillance, analysis, however, does not explain the cause of the deaths. The conclusive results, according to the agency, must leave on Friday [01/fevereiro/2013] with the issuance of the report of the Medico-Legal Institute (IML) and the result of analysis by the Instituto Adolfo Lutz on products used in procedures that resulted in deaths. The Sanitary Vigilance said no hypothesis about the cause of death was ruled.
On Wednesday (30) [January/2013], the Hospital Vera Cruz released the schedules for the deaths on Monday (28) [January/2013], the images captured by security cameras in place.
The first patient began to take 18h22 and had a cardiac arrest at 19.15. The death was observed at 20h.
The second patient began to take 18h49, 20h20 also dying to cardiopulmonary arrest.
The third patient took the exam from 19h15 to 21h and died.
The victims were a woman, aged 25, and two men, one 34 and the other 39 years.

Three patients died in hospital after making resonance of Campinas (SP)

Three people died on Monday (28) [January/2013] after conducting MRI scans in private hospital Vera Cruz, in Campinas (95 km from Sao Paulo).
The Sanitary Vigilance recommended that all health units to suspend tests of the type [recommendation already reviewed; see below - Mod RNA], until it is established that the causes of death.
In a statement, the hospital said the deaths occurred between the afternoon and evening yesterday [28/janeiro/2013], for reasons yet unknown. The hospital is awaiting the decision of IML (Institute of Forensic Medicine) and a position of Sanitary Surveillance of Campinas. "We regret the incident and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate bodies," says the text.
The victims, according to the communications industry the [hospital] Vera Cruz, were two men and one woman aged between 25 and 39 years, and after resonance, felt sick, felt tingling and soon had cardiac arrest. A magnetic resonance imaging was made by victims in two different outfits.
On the same day [28/janeiro/2013], other 83 tests were made in the sector, administered by a contractor for 20 years at Vera Cruz. No other patient reactions after the procedure. Monthly, 1800 examinations are done in the hospital.
In the morning of Tuesday (29) [January/2013], the Municipal Health and Sanitary issued a recommendation that all hospitals and clinics in the city temporarily suspend routine examinations and magnetic resonance tomography, made with contrast [revised recommendation, see below - Mod RNA]. The request does not include emergency cases.

Surveillance suspends serum of patients after death in Campinas

The Sanitary State of São Paulo ruled on Tuesday (29) [January/2013] the suspension of lots of substances and sera used in the examination of 3 patients in hospital Vera Cruz, in Campinas (93 km from SP). They did MRI in skull yesterday [28/janeiro/2013], got sick and died in the hospital, for reasons still unknown.
During the day, teams of state and municipal Sanitary stayed in the hospital to examine the equipment and remove lots of 3 types of whey (physiological, Samtec and Equipex) and 2 based substances to gadolinium contrast (Magnevistan and Dotarem) both closed and open batches. The material will be analyzed at the Instituto Adolfo Lutz.
The Department of Health of Campinas coordinates the work to determine the cause of the deaths, and recommended that all health units to suspend tests using the so-called contrast (a substance used to make the image clearer the procedure), except in emergency situations .
The deaths occurred between 18h and 20h on Monday (28) [January/2013], after patients - MCAM, 25, PJRPF, 36 and MPS, 39, had undergone MRIs with use of contrast.
After the examination, M. got to go home, but fell ill and returned to hospital. The other 2 patients did not make it off the site. The 3 were treated by different teams, two of them went through one device and received a type of contrast and another received 1 contrast different on other equipment.
Besides having passed the exam, there are no elements in common between the death of the three victims. Other 83 people underwent MRI at the hospital during the Monday [28/janeiro/2013], and showed no symptoms.
The managing director of Vera Cruz, Gustavo Carvalho announced that all necessary information will be passed to the authorities and that the hospital also wants the case to be clarified. According to him, there is no serious risks involved in MRI with contrast procedure done at the hospital for 20 years on average 1,800 times per month.

After discussion between the mayor and the governor Jonah Donizette Alckmin, the Departments of Health of Campinas and São Paulo State interdicted lots of products used in MRIs done on the evening of Monday, 28/01 [2013], which culminated in the deaths of 3 people in a private hospital in Campinas.
The deaths occurred between 18h and 20h of January 28 [2013], after patients - two men aged 36 and 39 years and 1 female 25 - having undergone MRIs with contrast. They died of cardiac arrest in the range of up to 1 hour after the exam. The resonance of the hospital service is performed by a provider.
Investigations are being conducted by the Department of Health Surveillance (currency agreed) and started immediately after the Municipal Health Secretariat had been informed on the evening of the 28th [January/2013].
Besides the ban, the hospital medical supplies and pharmaceuticals used in MRI procedures have been sent for analysis in the laboratory of the Instituto Adolfo Lutz, reference to Public Health in the State of São Paulo.
As the currency agreed, the service resonance hospital involved will be interdicted until they complete the investigation. The closures are precautionary, ie count as a precautionary measure.
The Department of Health reports that MRIs and CT scans are released in Campinas, provided they are not used banned products.
Measures taken in Campinas are recommended by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).
