Vancouver Coastal Health are encouraging Whistler residents who haven't already been immunized, and were born after 1957, against mumps to do so.

According to a press release, there has recently been five confirmed cases of the virus in Whistler, affecting mostly males in their 20s...

After alerting the Whistler community in late winter and early spring about the potential for a mumps outbreak, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is reaching out once more to encourage people to get immunized against the virus.

This comes following news that there have been around 50 cases of people contracting mumps in the resort since the late winter.

?We?re still getting cases of mumps in Whistler and the majority are in the 20- to 30-year-old age group,? said VCH?s Paul Martiquet...

Centre warns of Metro Vancouver mumps outbreak

VANCOUVER ? The BC Centre for Disease Control is urging Metro Vancouver residents to check their immunization records as an outbreak of mumps hits Metro Vancouver.

The centre has not indicated how many cases have been recorded, but it says the latest outbreak extends across the Coastal and Fraser health authorities on the Lower Mainland...

Mumps outbreak hits Lower Mainland

The Lower Mainland is experiencing its largest mumps outbreak since 2008, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.

There are currently 77 cases of the disease in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health authorities, mostly in young adults, said Dr. Monika Naus, medical director of immunization programs.

?We?re still in the upswing of this outbreak,? she added.

In 2008, 180 cases were reported...
