Shasta Lake student dies; Meningitis, sepsis suspected

A student at Shasta Lake School has died after falling ill with what appears to be either meningitis or sepsis, the Gateway Unified School District reported today.

The student, a 7th grade girl at the school, fell ill Wednesday, said district Superintendent Jim Harrell. She later died from what appeared to be the bacterial meningococcal disease, which includes sepsis, an infection of the blood, and meningitis, an infection of the tissues covering the brain...
