Measles Vaccination Program Launched at Local High School

The Calgary Health Region is hoping to avoid an outbreak of red measles at a local high school.
The C-H-R is launching a measles vaccination program at Western Canada High School, after two students came down with the disease.
The program was initiated after a 17-year-old boy came down with the disease following a trip to North Africa. When he returned home to Calgary, he passed the measles on to his sister.
So far, the C-H-R is only planning to vaccinate students at the sister's school because of the incubation period. Dr. David Strong says they will keep an eye on the other school, but no reports of measles have surfaced there yet. He says if there are any new cases, it's expected they would start to surface later this week.
Over the weekend 148 students at Western Canada High School were vaccinated; another 120 may get vaccinated today after the C-H-R checks their vaccination records to see if their shots are up to date.
