Canada-HSC urges prevention of infant lung infections

HEALTH Sciences Centre wants parents to take steps to prevent respiratory infections in newborns after seeing a jump in the number of infections.
Since mid-December, there have been 106 cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) admitted to Children's Hospital, according to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. A total of 19 kids had to be taken to the intensive care unit.
RSV is a virus that can lead to respiratory infections, such as bronchiolitis. It can occur year-round, but is most common during the winter months...more

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is reminding parents to take precautions to protect against respiratory infections after seeing a high number of newborns being treated recently.

Since mid December, Children's Hospital has seen 106 young children admitted due to respiratory virus issues. That number is double the number from 2009, said health officials....more from the source.
