Local school and health officials were addressing reports Tuesday that three students had confirmed diagnoses of viral meningitis.
The students are all from Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School, where up to 80 students had either not reported or checked out of school by early Tuesday afternoon.
In an abundance of caution, Superintendent of Schools Jim Norton said, several extracurricular events were being cancelled, including a junior-varsity football game tonight and Thursday?s volleyball game.
With input and advice from state officials, schools will remain open, Norton said.
An epidemiologist with the Florida Department of Health, on a conference call, said that at this time, ?It should not be necessary to close school.?...
