Second Goan falls prey to swine flu

Goa registered its second indigenous swine flu death on Tuesday. The second victim is also a woman, aged 25, residing in Tiswadi taluka, North Goa, and a native of South Goa.
The first death reported in the State was that of a 28-year-old woman from Cabo de Rama in Canacona that had the health authorities in a puzzle as the woman had no travel history.
Acting nodal officer for swine flu Dr Jose de Sa said in the case of the woman who died today too there was no travel history. We have given the necessary prophylactic treatment to the family members and persons who came in contact with the deceased, he stated.
It is learnt that the woman, a housewife, was staying in a rented apartment with her husband and two children. She developed fever with influenza-like illness on October 7. After consulting a private doctor, she was referred to a private hospital and then subsequently to Goa Medical College on October 12.
Dr de Sa said she developed breathlessness and was on ventilator. She expired today morning after eight days, he stated.
Meanwhile, three suspected cases of H1N1 are admitted in one naval and two private hospitals and all are receiving anti-viral treatment.
