H1N1 infects more schools, ministry releases new instructions
Another temporary clinic was set up Tuesday at a Ho Chi Minh City high school where 15 students tested positive for influenza A (H1N1). They were among 32 students who had high fevers for two days.
The Quoc Van Saigon School, located in Binh Thanh District, has been sterilized and will be closed for at least one week. It is the site of the third H1N1 outbreak in the city in one week.
The first outbreak was in Le Hong Phong High School in District 5 where 10 students tested positive for the virus and the second was Tan A Company in Thu Duc District that has 10 workers infected.
Dong Nai Province neighboring the city Tuesday reported five new cases, one a worker at Amata Industrial Zone in Bien Hoa Town.
Also on Tuesday, the Education and Training Department of Long An Province in the Mekong Delta closed Vo Cong Ton Junior High as three ninth-graders were infected with influenza A.
A temporary clinic has been set up at the school while Long Hiep Primary School next door also closed for a week for sterilizing.
Education authorities in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, where the country?s first H1N1 fatality was reported, has been ordered to distribute 300,000 leaflets on the virus to update students, regularly sterilize classroom furniture and stair handrails, and arrange extra classes for students that would have to take days off for treatment.
Vietnam?s Ministry of Health on Tuesday confirmed 65 new infections of the flu, raising the country?s tally to 1,576, of which 1,073 have recovered fully. Two deaths so far include one in Ho Chi Minh City.
The ministry said most flu cases in Vietnam can be treated at general hospitals at district and provincial levels. It has also given new instructions for treating flu patients that allow them to be discharged after three days instead of seven, as long as they no longer have any clinical signs of the disease.
New instructions provide measures for diagnosing and treating one to 13- year-old patients.
People are also advised not to rush for Tamiflu as the ministry has enough to treat patients for free and some pharmacy firms have licenses to import the medicine and sell upon prescription.
