CHINA - The low-pathogenic bird flu virus H7N9 was found at three poultry markets in Hunan and Guangdong provinces in the third week of February.
The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No.14 dated 7 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The low-pathogenic avian influenza virus of the H7N9 subtype was found at three markets in Hunan and Guangdong provinces between 19 and 23 February.
At Jinshabeilu Agriculture Products Market in Liuyang, Hunan, 50 samples were collected from the market - 15 chicken samples, 16 pigeon samples and 19 environment samples. The positive samples were pigeon samples. All 631 birds were destroyed.
At Chengbei Agriculture Products Market in Loudi, Hunan, two of the 22 samples collected from chickens tested positive for the virus. All 22 birds were destroyed.
In Guangdong, 60 samples were collected from Baijiaodazhong Agriculture Products Market in Doumen, Zhuhai. The samples included 20 chicken samples, 20 duck samples and 20 goose samples. The three positive samples all came from chickens; 82 birds were destroyed.
