Hospital?s influenza B outbreak investigated

The Vancouver Island Health Authority is undertaking an investigation to determine what role a recent outbreak of influenza B had in the deaths of five Lady Minto Hospital patients earlier this month.

?Each case is being reviewed,? said VIHA spokesperson Shannon Marshall.

Marshall said the outbreak was declared on March 31 and lasted until April 13. During that time, she said, 16 of the ECU?s 28 patients and eight of the hospital?s 35 staff were affected.
